Retail Ecommerce Sales Updates

Home Furnishing, Tools and Hardware, and Pet Supplies Retail Categories

With summer fast approaching and states easing their stay-at-home orders, we see consumers shifting their shopping habits. Consumer sentiment is changing as stores continue to reopen, but many are still hesitant to shop in-store. Ecommerce options still entice customers who want to be safe, contributing to a continued rise in ecommerce sales.

NetElixir’s Retail Intelligence Lab aggregated and analyzed the daily data for Home Furnishing, Tools and Hardware, and Pet Supplies retail categories over this past weeked. Comparing the daily data from June 5 and 6, 2020 to that of 2019, we found collectively:

  • The Average Order Value (AOV) is starting to increase slightly across categories, after marginally declining the past two months. Many companies decreased or erased their minimum order value for free shipping when online orders were the only option. However, as stores start to open, companies may be rescinding their original offers.
  • The digital transformation is accelerating, as mobile continues to grow. Mobile sales are rising as consumer become more and more comfortable searching and shopping through new means.
  • Shopping habits created by the coronavirus, such as ordering online and curbside pick up, will persist as we continue to navigate this uncertainty and practice social distancing.
