How to Show Up On Google Answers – A Quick Guide

We’re all curious by nature. With all the answers at our fingertips, it only takes us a few seconds to ask Google those life questions we’ve been seeking. But, have you ever wondered how those answers appear or, if you’re a brand, how to get up there on the SERP? Continue reading our quick walkthrough and, like Google, we’ll answer those burning questions.

What are Google Answers?

As avid fans of X-Men since the release of the first film back in 2000, we were curious – how many X-Men movies are there? We turned to Google and here are the results.

Think of Quick Answers as a convenient and user-friendly approach to answer your inquiries. Consider this – if you asked a question and got a bunch of paid text ads, PLAs, and a handful of links you’d probably end up searching Wikipedia or finding your way back to reddit. Google wants all of you to stay on Google. It’s as simple as that. Now, how exactly does one get exclusively selected for Quick Answers?

As Kirill Kronrod of BrightEdge noted, “Pages that Google selects for Quick Answers on our site are high authority pages with quality, well-structured content that is theme-relevant and optimized for a great user experience and answer specific questions closely matching the query.” (Source: BrightEdge)

How do they help your brand and why should you care?

Quick Answers just make sense. If Taco Tuesday is quickly approaching, you might search for a taco recipe.

If you take a close look at the results, Pillsbury appears first, showing off a delectable recipe for ground beef tacos. Unfortunately for Pillsbury, it only has only one review…one star out of five.

Might be best to skip this recipe, just in case.

Now, if you have even better recipes out there that have received impressive rewards from top chefs worldwide and praise from renowned food blogs, this is your chance to shine. Make sure the content is clear, concise, and to the point. It should include clear ingredients and directions, have strong visuals, estimated prep and cook time, multimedia, and similar details. Make sure you share it and tell the world about it, otherwise it’ll never get the recognition it deserves.

The goal is to become the authority within your industry. This should help cement you as the go-to resource on taco recipes, or whatever said topic. The problem is, it does take some work. Posting one taco recipe, for example, isn’t going to make you go viral overnight.

How do you get on Google Quick Answers?

  • Identify questions users ask when doing your keyword research
  • Create helpful and accurate content that answers that question in a literal way that appeals to your audience. Google favors accuracy!
  • Format your genius answer through a paragraph, list, or table. Whatever makes the most sense.
  • Put the answer in your title/caption/label/section header.
  • Encourage clicks by using Google’s snippet length restriction in your favor. Google will only show some of your answer, which will get curious readers to click your link for more.
  • Make sure you’re on top of best SEO practices like on-page optimization, useful cross-linking, and technical tactics.

What about Call-To-Actions in the Answer Boxes?

Sometimes you’re missing certain tools on your preferred device. The other day, it was Adobe Reader. Here’s what happened with a quick search on Google.

On the bottom left there’s an arrow and the words, “Go to download.” A few clicks and you’re able to read PDFs again. Having strong call-to-actions helps improve conversions.

We suggest following our outlined steps and reach out to us directly if you have any questions.

You don’t have to be #1 on the SERP or even have the best taco recipe in the interwebs to be featured. This shows the power of SEO, structured content, and relevancy.

As Search Engine Land’s Jim Yu bluntly said, “The bottom line: Google likes organized, easily accessible data.” (Source: Search Engine Land)
